Ashford Internazionale play in the People's Cup

Ashford Internazionale club recently played in the first round of five-a-side walking football games of the People’s Cup, organised by the Football Association and supported by BBC Get Inspired.

The People’s Cup is a national competition covering 18 different categories with the finals played at Wembley.

Ashford Internazionale were placed in a group which included Maidstone, Herne Bay and Ebbsfleet. Herne Bay ended the games as overall winners and will progress to round 2.

Ashford Internazionale are based at the Stour Centre and play there every Monday at 10am. The club is for the over 60s and members play for fun, to keep fit and for the opportunity to play friendlies against other teams in Kent. Local company Fixings Warehouse who are based in Charing sponsor the club.

Walking football is a slow-paced version of the game, designed to help people maintain an active lifestyle, as well as getting those back to playing football who had to stop due to injury. It is a non-contact sport, and anyone that sprints, runs or jogs while the ball is in play is penalised with the opposition getting a free kick. This seven-a-side game is played using a size 4 Futsal.
